Visiting Chapel of Immaculate Conception

Image
I recently visited the Chapel of Immaculate Conception in Sungai Batu (Stone River). I was told that many miracles have taken place there. The chapel is isolated and difficult to get to. Luckily, members of a nearby church gave us direction to the location. I was unable to find the location of the chapel on Google but found a few blogs by others sharing their visit. For those of you who want to go the chapel, the coordinates are: 5.653000, 100.496000 The location on Google map: The chapel may be locked and you will need to call the caretaker (Mr. Francis – 013 4569984) to open it if you wish to pray. Note that the caretaker only understands Malay language. History of the chapel - found at the entrance of the chapel Based on the history, the chapel was originally built in 1935 by the estate management to cater for the needs of the Catholics there but was removed in 1981 by the government to make way for development. In 1987, one of the parishioner donated

Counting My Blessings

Image
Instead of setting up a new year resolution, I thought it would be a good time to count my blessings instead. One of the key components in the Law of Attraction is gratitude. In order to feel gratitude, we need to reflect on all the various blessings and gifts we have in our life. Rather than looking at things to improve all the time, we sometimes have to stop and see what we already have. First to be thankful about being alive and here today and being able to write this article. Here are the list of things I am thankful for the year 2013: that everyone in the family is healthy. having a good job. working with great and supportive people. having money in my savings account. having food to eat everyday. living in a peaceful country. having people who appreciates and loves me. having things to believe in. having and knowing talents and gifts I have been given. getting to know wonderful people from different countries around the world. having a great

Altar Girls

Image
The Cathedral in Penang finally allowed girls to serve as Altar Girls. This is the first time I have actually seen this happen. I do not know if this is a common practice so I did a search and found that it is not common. It is strange that at age of equality between the sexes, we still see many areas where only male or female are allowed. It might be a minor change but I am sure that such practice can be a shock to conservatives. Since I have not heard of any protest, I guess it is acceptable to all in the parish.

Feel Good Movies

Image
The following are some feel good movies I recently watched on Youtube Undercover Angel is a touching story of a man who had to baby sit a cute girl who turned out to be his daughter. The daughter in turn helped him become successful. Christmas Angel. A romantic story - telling about a man who do good deeds without any expectation of return to atone for his past and how he identified someone to continue his work. It's a Wonderful Life. One of my all time favorite Christmas movie Though None go With me. Sad and touching story

Getting Paid for Online Activities

Image
I started blogging back in 2008 with Programmer’s Journal on the Blogger platform. That was the first time I realized that I am able to earn money online. The earning is not a lot but it turned out to be a game for me to experiment and see how much I could earn. I wanted to share my experience below. MyLot required a lot of active time (well at least until the rules for the site changed). I received quite a few payment from them since I started but stopped when I thought that they had stopped paying. However, after I heard they were still paying, I continued until the latest change - where they stopped sharing revenue completely. Triond is another site I received several payments from. It is great because of the low cash out limit so I did not have to wait long to reach the payout and receive my money. Bukisa is another site that was good to me for a while. I was attracted to it initially due to the high earning rate but later they changed it to be a partial share.

Accident but Still a Blessing

Recently we took our children for a day of fun and games in at Berjaya Theme Park. Everything seems perfect. The drive to the Berjaya Time Square was smooth with minimal traffic and we did not have any trouble finding the place (unlike the last time where we had to stop to ask for direction and drive around different blocks to find the entrance). This time we decided to park at a nearby open car park (which only charges a flat rate) instead of the covered parking inside Berjaya Time Square). We arrived at the entrance of the indoor Theme Park before it was open but already there were a few others in front of us. Both children were excited with the trip because they planned to go on the roller coaster with a 360 degree loop for the first time. Even though they have been to the theme park multiple times, they have never had the courage to go on the roller coaster. They went from one ride to another while I joined them in a few of the rides. We got into one of the rides known as the “DNA

Cranky Old Men

This was shared with me in Google Plus.  Very touching. When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value. Later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Melbourne .. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet. Cranky Old Man..... What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see? What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me? A cranky old man, . . . . . .n

Presentation Tips from Steve Jobs

A few thing presentation ideas from Steve Jobs: He hardly ever looks back at the presentation. There are hardly any words on the slides, leave alone lengthy bullet points. Even when he's sharing the financial results of the company (in the beginning), he makes them fun to listen to. He is driving the presentation, not the other way around. He's delivering the message, and the slides are giving the added impact to his message.   His words are in absolute sync with the slides. There are no useless headers, footers or logos on every slide, that we often use on ours. It gives that extra space, flexibility and freshness to every slide. You can hardly notice the remote controller in his hand. There are no other visible gadgeteries on him, distracting the audience.   He's so relaxed and calm, and that makes the audience comfortable and receptive to his message. He's so focused on the message. Not even once did he stray from the topic. He's unbelievably well fa

Beauty in Nature

Lately as I look around, I noticed many interesting things but have missed it before.   Take example how lights dance in the wind: As the insects dance around the lights, you can see the  patterns  the insects make: It was also interesting, that the color of this picture somehow creates a different color effect in the photo. Even in the sky, we can see interesting design.  For example this eye in the sky:

Nice Thoughts

The following are a collection of nice thoughts: If you judge people, you have no time to love them. - Mother Teresa In a day, when you don't come across any problems, you can be sure that you are travelling a wrong path - Swami Vivekananda If someone feels that they had never made a mistake in their life, then it means that they had never tried a new thing in their life. - Albert Einstein. Never break four things in our life - Trust, Relations, Promise & Heart because when they break, the don't make noise but pains a lot. - Charles Dickens Three sentences for getting success: Know more than other. NAILS IN THE FENCE

Received this from a friend - posted it a bit late. National Friendship week is on Aug 2, 2009 (one week late). Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence. (Most importantly the last sentence) There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the h
