Park and Ride from Prai to Penang

Penang Government will be introducing a park and ride service for people staying in Prai and working on the Island.   This service will start on Mar 2011.  The commute will be from Seberang Jaya on the mainland to the factories in Bayan Lepas (including Sunshine in Bayan Baru).

The free bus service will run 6am to 9am and from 4pm to 7pm on Mondays to Fridays.

This is one of the Green initiatives of the Penang government as well as to help fight the increase in fuel prices.  This follows another initiative of no plastic bag for the supermarkets and fast food outlets.  This shows the political will of the local government to help save our environment and create greater awareness.

Penang Twin Tower

Here are some pictures of Penang Twin Tower (courtesy of a colleague of mine) taken during the last Penang Bridge Marathon:

I think it is pretty impressive architecture although not as high as the KL Twin Tower.

Self sustaining

With the cost of living going up, everything cost a lot more.  However, there people of go to great lengths to be come self sustaining.  I noticed this a semi detached house in Penang recently:

In Malaysia, due to our multicultural heritage, you will find many different kinds of architectural design. Here are some examples:

These are pre-War (World War II) houses:

Notice Komtar in the back. Komtar is also starting to lose its attraction as a shopping destination but still contains government offices:

Kek Lok Si Temple

Kek Lok Si temple is one of the more popular tourist spots in Penang. It is a located in Ayer Itam (translated Black Water). Due to the popularity of the temple, it receives a lot of donation and has been constantly renovated.

Here are some photos taken from there:

Kek Lok Si is now divided into two areas, one for Pagoda and another for the Goddess of Mercy. The Goddess of Mercy is located at the higher platform. There is a cable car (elevator) which transports you between the two areas.

The following is the Upper area:

The following is the Goddess of mercy on the building that houses the gift shop and also where you can board the elevator to the lower level - Pagoda.

Here you can see the construction of the Goddess of mercy statue - they are building a towers to support a roof over the statue.

There is a garden next to it with statues of the 12 animals of the lunar calendar:

This is the view from the cablecar/elevator:

This is the view from the lower level:

There is a turtle pond. Turtle…
