Removing Indelible Ink

Image
I thought of letting the ink go off by itself but it too too long. It started peeling. Finally, I was told that it could be removed using bleach. Bleaches available these days are rather mild, so I did not feel anything when I soaked my finger in it. My wife was more sensitive so she felt some heat when she soaked her finger. This was how my fingered appears immediately after voting. After dipping into the bleach, the ink was removed except for some on my nail.   This was the bleach I used.

Android for Work

Image
I recently tried Android for Work (also known as Work Profile). It is similar to the multiple user I wrote about previously except that the apps reside within the primary user account. This approach as a few advantage over the multiple user account, they are: Alarm from the work profile will appear on the screen. In multiple user mode, only alerts of the active (selected) profile are visible. The problem of turning on the Do Not Disturb and switching profile will not happen. This option is available in more brands of Android phones. Will not encounter issues of non responsive screen (i.e. keyboard for entering password does not appear) is drastically reduced ~ not too sure whether this is an issue with my phone or the general problem with using multiple user. The Device policy is applied only within the work profile. The disadvantage of using the work profile is that applications that can be added to the work profile are restricted by the Company administrator. In order to

Screen Overlay Detected Error

Image
I thought my phone was broken. I could not grant or revoke permissions on any of the apps on my phone unless I restart the phone in safe mode. I could not perform zoom or even change anything in my camera, I could only take normal shots. It was so frustrating that I considered buying a new phone. However, I decided to perform some research as a final attempt. Each time, I tried to make any changes I am faced with the following screen. Turns out the offending application was es explorer. I do not remember which site provided me this information but the solution was found in one of the comments to the article. At first, I uninstalled es explorer and everything works again. However, I was not satisfied, I decided to reinstall the app and tried the suggestion in another comment to just disable es swipe. The suggestion was effective, so I can continue to use es browser.  To disable, the swipe feature, go to the settings and then click the on button and select disable:

What I Learned From Pokemon Go II

Image
I played Pokemon Go during my holiday in Kuala Lumpur a few months ago and discovered the following: Speed Matters I read that using incense we are able to attract more exotic Pokemon so we decided to do that while driving down the highway. However, traveling at 110 kilometers an hour made it impossible to catch any Pokemon the incense attracted. The incense was not very effective, it only attracted five to ten Pokemon. The ones we encountered were difficult to catch and the ones we caught would always escape. Malls in Kuala Lumpur are better I was unable to use GPS on my Note 3 in any of the malls in Penang but had no problems in any of the malls in Kuala Lumpur. I guess it is the way the antennas are set in the malls in Kuala Lumpur. Mid Valley was the best mall we visited to catch Pokemon. Seems that there was different spawn schedules, some days we found many Pincers and other days we found Scyther. We also found Pikachu spawns at Sunway Pyramid. Takin

What I Learned From Pokemon Go

Image
I recently started playing Pokemon Go after it was launched in Malaysia and these are some of the things I learned. GPS Pokemon Go depends a lot on GPS and the quality of GPS differs between the phones. Samsung Note 3 does not work indoors. Even outdoor Samsung Note 3 loses the GPS signal. I tried switching between the different GPS modes - High Accuracy - GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile network, Power saving - Wi-Fi and mobile network, and GPS only. High Accuracy is the most reliable mode for Samsung Note 3 and is only playable outdoors. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 requires switching between Wifi and Network when playing indoor and GPS only when playing outdoors. High Accuracy does not work very well with the game. OnePlus One has the most reliable GPS. Battery The game drains a lot of power. Xiaomi battery lasts the longest followed by OnePlus. Samsung has the shortest life among the three phones we used. One concern I have is how much the frequent charging and dischar

Removing Skin Tags

Image
I do not remember when I skin tag first appeared on my neck. Skin tags may appear cosmetic, but I have some tags that feel sore, the kind of soreness that seem to come from the nerves. At first, I did not know what to do with the tags, but luckily for me, my wife came up with a way to remove the tags. She pulled a strand of her hair and tied the tag. The tag will turn black and fall off together with the hair. This approach was effective until my wife decided to shorten her hair and her eyesight started to deteriorate. Since then I tried looking for alternative ways of removing the skin tags. One of the approaches is to apply apple vinegar on the tags. I tried it, but it did not work for me, either because of the way I applied or because I had not applied it frequently enough (I applied it only at night because of the strong smell of the vinegar). I considered freezing the tag using hydrogen peroxide - treatment used to remove benign warts. The pharmacist recommended an alt

Happy Easter

Image
For Christians, Easter is the day when Jesus rose again, three days after he died on the cross. During mass today, our priest asked us a question, what do we do in the 50 days of Easter season. Our priest mentioned that we Catholics are very good at celebrating suffering, during the 40 days of Lent season, many make sacrifices and our churches come up with many programs. However, nothing is done for the 50 days of the Easter season. In fact, I have never really thought of the Easter season except for the first day of Easter (known as Easter Sunday). What we do for Lent is for us, helping us to join the suffering of Jesus. Easter is the celebration of Jesus’ triumphant return to God, our father. So how do we celebrate Easter, celebrate our resurrection with our Lord Jesus Christ? Our priest asked if any of us have ever experienced resurrection and also for examples, none of in the congregation could. He then shared with us, for the poor and homeless, when members of the church

Getting Rid of Mosquitoes

Image
Seems that the recent hot spell has caused mosquitoes to appear in large numbers. This went on for a few nights. Each time, I go to sleep, they will start attacking me. The bites will appear as lumps on my hands and legs. Those lumps were both painful and itchy. I tried using commercial mosquito spray but I had to remember to spray my bedroom a few hours before my bedtime because I did not want to sleep breathing the poison. It sometimes works. However, I often forget and even when I remember, the mosquitoes will return after the effect wears off and someone leaves the door open. I decided to use the electronic mosquito swatter we bought a few years ago. We left it aside for a few years after the last mosquito season. Unfortunately for me, the swatter could no longer retain charge. I managed to kill a few but I miss a lot because the swatter ran out of charge quite often after I spot the mosquito and when I hit it. On one of the nights, there was a mosquito which decided that

What You Need to Know About Medical Insurance

Image
My recent accident got me to think about insurance when I found out that my medical card did not cover for the bridge needed to replace the three teeth I lost. We consulted an agent from another insurance company who happen to be a close friend to my parents. According to her, bridge should be covered since it was to restore the function of my mouth before the accident. The other two insurance cover maintains that bridge is considered cosmetic and is therefore not covered. ©  Marissa CC: Attribution-ShareAlike Sadly, it is usually the case when it comes to insurance. We get insurance for the peace of mind that we will be covered when we need it but when we really need to coverage, we are told that we are not covered. I am switching my medical insurance for now. I hope the new policy will provide a better coverage than the one I am switching from. For a comparable premium the lifetime limit of the medical insurance is RM 1 million compared to the old one is only RM 720k. The o
