Multiple User Accounts on Android Phone

Image
The ability to create multiple user accounts (I shall refer as profile to avoid confusion of accounts for apps) on Android phone was introduced in Lollipop but I could not find it until I started using OnePlus One. This feature is disabled in brands like Samsung, Xiaomi and Asus. I think this option is enabled for Sony Xperia. Multiple user account option is enable if the Users option is available in the Android settings (see the picture above). This is an excellent feature that allows me to separate my office information from my personal information; I do not have to worry about the enforcement of policies required by my company affecting my personal user profile. I tried Samsung Knox briefly but did not like it because the Google policy still had to be enforced on the main account and also Knox consumes a lot of memory (since it is running with Android on my main account) and makes the phone very slow. With the multiple user profile, I can decide which one to use (and less

Opportunity to Discover

I recently started downloading podcast and listening to them on the way to and from my office. Podcast works great since I can download it at home and listen to it (without mobile data) in my car. I tried listening to Audiobooks in the past but takes too much time to download and also to listen. I discovered a podcast series that was just started this year called “The Way I Heard It”. Each episode only last about six minutes and so far the few episodes introduces me to interesting stories of things and people I did not know about. Some of the stories include: The person who came up with the technology used in modern wifi. How a teacher managed to help a shy boy realize his gift and became one of the greatest voice of our time. Only 12 episodes (with the first episode explaining why the podcast was started) have been created so far and it looks like a new episode is made available each week. I just thought of sharing this great discovery.

Danger to the Public

Image
We just had lunch near The Store in Sri Petaling for my mother's birthday. It was a lovely lunch, food price was reasonable. However, one the way back, my mother fell down after hitting an exposed bar on the lighting post at The Store. The bars are used for hanging Bunting banners. Without the banners, the bars are not obvious. My mother fell down after hitting the bar. The height of the bars are dangerous and may blind children if they walk into them. We highlighted the problem to one of the workers in The Store but do not know if they will take any action. Frankly, I am not that optimistic since he kept saying that we should approach the manager. He did get his supervisor to see the problem but the supervisor appears to have the same attitude. Here is the bars: This is the picture of The Store The location of the Store

Be Considerate to Your Neighbor

Image
Dragon from Straw Recently my neighbor had a celebration the night before their son’s wedding. We knew about the wedding and my parents were invited for the wedding reception the following day. We were fine about not being invited, however at about 8 pm, they asked us over. It seems a bit inappropriate and my parents were offended. The last minute invitation was more of an insult. It was an after thought invitation and does not appear sincere. To make things worst, they burned some fireworks at about 12:45 am - way past midnight. If they planned to play with fireworks, they should have done it before 10 pm. Most of us have to wake up early and would like to get our rest. Burning fireworks on the eve of Chinese New Year is accepted because it is expected. As good neighbors we should think of how our actions will affect our neighbors and give some considerations. For example, if you are sincere about inviting your neighbors to your celebration, invite them at least one to two da
