Malaysia By Election 2014

Image
The by-election which took place on May 25, 2014, had one of the lowest turnout in any by-election in Malaysian history. The opposition was counting on the low turn out to increase chances of not losing their deposit. It looks like the public had expected an easy win for DAP and had not turned out. Though that was true with the Glugor by-election, it proved to be fatal for the Teluk Intan by-election. My parents expected a large turn out and wanted to go to the polling station at around noon. However, when I saw the small number of people around when I arrived in the area, I called them to come over. One thing that has improved since the last election is the quality of the indelible has improved. It felt like a layer of super glue which could not be washed off. I had to wait more than a week for the ink to disintegrate. The ink absorbed into my nail cuticles so I have to wait until it grows and then click the painted nails off. Will this deter women from voting in future? I guess t...

Choosing a New Phone

Image
I have been looking for a replacement for my aging Desire HD for more than a year and have been holding off until now. At this time, I have decided to stick with Android a decision I made when I moved from HTC Touch 3G (running Windows Mobile 6.1) more than 4 years ago. Support I considered the different brands in the market and decided to stick to only the popular brands like HTC, Samsung, Motorola, or Sony. This is based on my experience with HK Video where no upgrade or patches are available and it is impossible to get any custom ROMs. The tablet I bought came with Android 4.1.1 which had two major problems. First was a bug which prevented me from connecting to my office wifi. The second (which is a bigger concern) is that the version of Android is vulnerable to Heartbleed (OpenSSL). Samsung has the reputation of providing software updates up to 24 months. I have not heard of any other companies providing support for such a long time. If there are any, please let me know. I only r...

Cosplay Invasion 3

Image
I recently had to attend an actual cosplay event. The event is known as Cosplay Invasion 3 and was held in Penang Times Square from Mar 22 and 23. I came upon the event by chance. There was a Big Bad Wolf sale in the same area on the day. It is interesting to see the lengths the participants went through to dress up as their favorite character. I am sure they spent a lot of money to look the part. There were also stores in the location selling souvenirs to visitors. My daughter was with me at the time. We went to the event hall twice. Before going to the book sale and after coming out of the book sale. My daughter bought a key chain from the cosplay event hall. Here are some of the photos I managed to capture from the event.

Palm Sunday

Image
Palm Sunday just passed this weekend. It is the week we celebrate the sacrifice of Jesus for us - dying on the cross for our sins. As part of the celebration, some members of the church came out with a sketch. This was delivered as part of a song. The story is told from the point of view of Simon, the person who was asked to carry the cross for Jesus on the way to Mount Calvary. The costumes was well done and the whole sketch great. Simon had taken his two children to see the lamb and had just entered the city when he saw the crowd shouting for the crucifixion of Jesus. Here are some of the photos taken during the sketch. Caught a video towards the end but unfortunately my phone did not capture the song and it is rather noisy.
