Fantastic Four 2015 Movie Review

The latest Fantastic Four tried attracting younger audience by making them younger, probably due to the success of Amazing Spider Man. Based on the box office result, it is not successful. There are several problems with the movie. I realize that this is a movie about the origin of the Fantastic Four but feel that too much time was spent trying to explain and build up the characters and the final confrontation felt rush. Another problem was the characters. One of the attraction of Fantastic Four was the frequent bickering and fights between Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm but this was absent in the movie. We saw only a glimpse of that at the end of the movie. This was the comic relief that was in the first movie but missing in this movie. In the movie, Susan and Johnny Storm is almost as smart as Reed Richards; it just did not feel right. The tracking of Reed Richards after he escaped Area 51 felt out of place - much more suitable in a Hulk movie. The movie was too serious and l

Terminator Genisys vs Jurassic World

Terminator Genisys and Jurassic World are two highly anticipated movies shown in 2015. Even though both are reboot and try to reclaim the success of their origin, only one was successful. This is my analysis of both movies and the reason why one was successful and the other was not. Terminator Genisys The movie attempts to use Arnold Schwarzenegger to draw the crowd in the movie that made him famous. Unfortunately, many of Arnold fans are action movie fans. The story is too confusing and puts off the very same fans drawn to the first movie. The story was predictable so part of the excitement found in the first movie is lost. After four movies and a television series, the story is stale. Also there is a lot more competing stories of android/cyborgs drawing attention of the fans - (example Robocop, Vision in Avengers). I tried to get my children interested in this show did not succeed. The title and the thriller was not compelling enough to get them interested. There lies the main prob

Batman Exhibit in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

It was a treat to come across the Batman exhibit at the Pavilion Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur. I was there for lunch with my family during the school holidays. It really brought back memories of when I used to read the comics and watch the old goofy series on television. My children did not share my enthusiasm, I guess they are more into cartoons like Phineas and Ferb. It was an opportunity to see how Batman had changed over the years. My children were surprised to hear about Penguin and Joker. The first thing that caught my attention was the bat-mobile. It looked great from the upper floor but not as good close up. Since it was a marketing event, I guess I should not be surprised by the things offered at the venue. A bottle of water with the Batman cover over it was RM8/-. My daughter asked who would pay for that especially when an equivalent bottle of water only cost 80 cents. The TouchNGo card cost RM35 with zero value on it and the t-shirt sold there was RM150 a piece. T

Feel Good Movies

Image
The following are some feel good movies I recently watched on Youtube Undercover Angel is a touching story of a man who had to baby sit a cute girl who turned out to be his daughter. The daughter in turn helped him become successful. Christmas Angel. A romantic story - telling about a man who do good deeds without any expectation of return to atone for his past and how he identified someone to continue his work. It's a Wonderful Life. One of my all time favorite Christmas movie Though None go With me. Sad and touching story

Mama Mia - Compliments all the way

As I wrote in the blog that got me my free ticket for the screening of Mama Mia - I went into the show with minimal expectation since I did not know what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of the few events organized by NuffNang for Penangites. So Horray!! There are so few events for us up North. Even though the tickets was not as impressive as the one the printed for K.L. Here is how our ticket looks like: Since this was free sitting, I expected to see a lot of the ugly Malaysian Ethics but surprisingly everybody was well behaved and entered the cinema in an orderly fashion. Don't see too many of those in these kind of free functions. Next I was surprised with the number of cameras that was brought for the event and more surprisingly was the fact that they were all allowed into the cinema hall. These shows how much respect we bloggers get :-) As for the show, I enjoyed it tremendously especially with all the ABBA songs which were my favorite

Mamma Mia

Every once in a while you come across a movie with a title that makes you wonder what it is all about. The last such movie I saw was " Romancing the Stone ". Now all of the sudden, you have a movie called " Mamma Mia ". What kind of title is that? To make things worst the poster just doesn't tell you anything about the story or what to expect. Which makes me wonder if the show is worth watching or not (have some very good stars but sometimes even the best stars cannot save a bad movie). Then all of the sudden I received this email from NuffNang with an invitation to watch the show. Better yet, it provides a blog telling me more about what to expect. Now, there are a few more pluses going for the movie. It is a musical and features songs from ABBA - the group who produced some the favorite songs of my childhood. All of the sudden, I begin to think may be it is another "Romancing the Stone" where the title just doesn't do it justice. N
